The story behind the story

The story behind the story

Psychological suspense thrillers are my genre, but it's not always been that way. I have had a love of reading since a child. I grew up on Biggles and Sherlock Holmes. HG Wells and Philip K Dick came in my teens and early adulthood. Academic reading took me in a different direction for a while, but then I regained my love for fiction, of all different genres. I'm into stories that focus on criminology and psychological aspects, and read both fiction and non-fiction.

My vocation has me involved with what is often seen as a ‘white collar’ crime, but there are certainly occasions that do raise some eyebrows! I write a lot for work, and had always loved the idea of doing some creative writing, but never found my start.

Some time ago, my employer at the time had a bad business model resulting in me constantly being away from home from Monday to Friday, and working 70 hours a week. Even when I wasn’t actively working, all I could think about was needing to reply to that email, or issue that report, or make that call. It had completely taken over my life and I needed something to take my mind away.

That was when I started to write.

What followed was a process of mental release, a safe space for me to be within my own mind. Ideas developed and grew, and before I knew it, the story was taking shape. After seven years of on and off writing, it was finally finished, although at that time, far from complete. My beta readers were great, and helped to shape and mould things. A special mention goes out to Helen, who has been instrumental in taking the story I was telling, into something a reader would love.

I hope that's exactly what you find - a story that grips you, sucks you in, sparks something inside, and by the end, was something that you loved.

But the ending is not the end... A trilogy is unfolding, and book 2 - One Day to Die - is currently underway. So if you're left wanting for more, be sure to stay in touch with me through my website, or social media channels (links below).
